So my new record is out today on (US) Merge / Decor (UK) - and that's a good thing. So happy with the people at the record companies who are helping promote it. Love the videos - and will post all of them here very soon. (after they are all released)
I asked that they put off releasing this to Spotify and other streaming services for about 6 months.. People think I'm crazy. Perhaps that is true - but after we spent all this money making the damn thing the idea of handing it over to them seems crazy. The only people getting rich off music on the Web are the owners of sites like this and the ISP's. They get rich beclause they dont have to pay the artists for the raw material they use. (calling $176.00 per million downloads a 'payment' is ludicrous) Do you remember the story of Sutter's Mill? That was where the first pieces of gold were found in the Gold Rush. Even though they filed a claim for their property - soon the place was destroyed - mill pulled down - people swarmed over the land and took what they could. This is what happened to the music industry. The ISP's (your friends at ATT and Time Warner) need to give a reason for people to pay the monthly service fee. Free music and film. One half of all Internet traffic worldwide is a BitTorrent. If the (silly) record companies would sue the ISP's for royalties (and not some poor kid) then things might change. Rant finished.
I'm racing to finish a newer CD / 12 new songs tentatively called "I Am Not A Serious Person" - trying to make it sound as good as Gomberg though that is impossible. Doing the impossible. That is my life. (I make a funny joke)

Hey Mark. Loving the new record & loving your rant. You do it so well & you're right :)
Big love Harry (Brighton) x
Hey Mark. Loving the new record especially 'We All Have To Find Our Own Way Out' Also loving your rants, you do them so well :)
Keep up the marvellous work - Harry (Brighton)
Wow is that true that one half of the traffic is BT??
Sites like Amazon. You can get albums for £2. But. California is £45. When something is sold on there £2 or £45 do you see any of that?
The new record is sublime, Mark. I agree with the Pitchfork review in their appreciation of your singing on this one. "Dreamy" is such a 1950's word, but I think it fits here. Here's hoping you come to Minneapolis at some point in the near future!
The week it came out, I listened to the new record while riding in backseats in the southwest of France. Now I'm home and still listening. The pictures in the booklet look like the songs. You look beautiful in them, too. Anyway, the album is pretty much exactly right and I love it.
Hey Mark, is it possible to get lyrics of the record? Here or on the AMC site...
Thanks
Hey Hank - All the lyrics are printed on the album artwork. Not going to take the time to put them on the web right now.
Bad attitude, Mark. Not very nice.
Ha. Yes I am the veritable Devil Mr Hankey
That's more like it. You're a good guy, regardless how bad You want to look.
I genuinely didn't realise that Spotify gave such a shitty deal to the artists they use to exist.
I use it a lot and always thought the royalty deal would be something like radio airplay.
Artists need to unite and get their share. Or at least spread the word more (like Mark has done here) about what Spotify are up to.
